Whooping cough vaccinations at UFS Medical

Whooping cough (Pertussis) vaccinations for adults and children are available in regular GP consultations at all UFS Medical practices.

Whooping cough is a highly contagious respiratory illness known for causing a cough. However many people are unaware that it can lead to life threatening infections in babies. Adults and older children can contract the illness and pass it on to infants.

The best way to prevent the spread of whooping cough is to ensure you are vaccinated. It is strongly recommended that all pregnant women are vaccinated between 20-32 weeks and that infants receive their vaccination on time. It is also important to be vaccinated if you are likely to be spending time around infants.

For patients eligible for the National Immunisation Program (NIP) whooping cough vaccine, there is no cost for the supply or administration of the vaccine. To check eligibility for an NIP vaccine please click here.

Whooping cough vaccinations are also available at some UFS pharmacies  – Click here for further information.

Please note that pharmacists can only administer this vaccination to people over 16 years. For younger patients, please make an appointment with your GP.
