Contraceptive implants can be inserted and removed by qualified GPs in our rooms, meaning it’s not necessary to see a specialist for this procedure.
Mirena
UFS Medical has two GPs qualified to insert and remove Mirena implants – Dr Pratima Mahji at UFS Medical Bridge Mall and Dr Elizabeth Moore at UFS Medical Doveton Street.
Mirena is a soft, flexible plastic implant placed in your uterus that releases small amounts of progestin locally into your uterus to prevent pregnancy for up to five years (less if you elect to have it removed sooner). Mirena is a highly effective treatment option with few side effects. It can also be used to treat heavy periods, and can be removed when required.
Dr Mahji and Dr Moore welcome bookings from new patients who would like to discuss their contraceptive options.
Implanon
Implanon is an alternative to a Mirena implant and is inserted under the skin of your upper arm. Implanon releases a progestin hormone from a plastic rod about the size of a matchstick, to prevent pregnancy for up to three years. This is a very effective contraception option as it is easily inserted and removed, removing the need to use other contraception or take regular contraceptive medication.
